Our Vision
We
help create empowering environments in the communities we serve that foster hope for a better future. We form strategic
alliances with donors, international organizations, and the international communities that are served by the projects we sponsor.
We seek to solve the problem of endemic poverty and promote total community health for those communities we serve.
The members of our organization are empowered by this vision that honors the dignity, diversity, and worth of everyone.
This is our calling.
Our Mission
FWH consists of individuals for whom the suffering and indignity of extreme poverty is intolerable.
Our goal is to help the 2.5 billion people who earn less than $2 a day to live lives of dignity and self-sufficiency.
We target two
principal areas of the lives of the desperately poor; health and income. In the area of health, we seek to make community
and environmental health indices like infant mortality, mortality beyond five years of age, maternal mortality, nutrition,
sanitation, bio-diversity, etc., look more like the indices found in the highly developed countries. In the area
of income, we seek to develop the capabilities required to improve vocational choices and to promote entrepreneurship through
micro-enterprise.
We do our work both directly and indirectly. In the first case, we send out dental and
medical delegations to work directly with populations who cannot afford fee-for-service health care. In the second case,
we support projects in community-based economic development and disaster relief through in-country partners.
In
short, we help communities to help themselves. We do this by giving them the support and the tools necessary to move
beyond their poverty. We help them to control their own destinies.
